The  aim of the day today is not to completely embarass myself running 7km with 30 000 people including all my co-workers. Wish me luck!

When I arrived back from Oxford I was absolutely exhausted. I didn’t realise just how tired I was until I nearly fell asleep at my desk two days in a row despite getting sensible amounts of sleep.  I wanted to go for a run and get back to a normal routine but realised that I had left my trainers in France (long story). This isn’t great as I have the B2run on the 23rd and haven’t been running in aaages. It’s only 7km but it is running with all my colleagues…

Thursday night I went out to the TUNIX after work. This was a music festival organised by the Technical University of Munich. Basically it was a beergarden (everybody loves those) with a stage where rock bands played. The bands weren’t at all bad and sitting in the sun after work drinking beer and eating greek salad wasn’t a bad way to end the day.

Friday night was almost a blowout as both Alex and I queued for an hour respectively for tickets for the LMU Sommerfest and both got rained out (they stopped selling tickets because it was raining). So we gave up and went to a restaurant, only to get a call from a friend saying they’d queued for 20 mins and got in. Not impressed. So we eventually rocked up at 12:30 and we too breezed in. The place was absolutely rammed, both inside and in the courtyards. The party had been open since 8pm and so we had missed most of the main events by the time we arrived but we wanted to dance so this wasn’t a big problem. There were all sorts of different rooms, rock, electro (minimalist :P ), poetry, folk, indie… In the end we went and danced in an indie/pop/electro/cheese room which was great as there was enough room to dance and everyone too drunk to care how stupidly you were dancing.

We danced the night away and then gave up around 4am. Getting up on Saturday, Alex got a call from Laurent asking us if we’d eaten yet. It was midday and we had to answer honestly that we hadn’t. So once again we had running sushi for brunch. I didn’t eat anything else for the rest of the day.

I did, however, get my bike fixed, which was excellent. Laurent is clearly the man for the job for that sort of thing. That evening I went to Anna’s birthday party in a beer garden to the South of Munich. It was nice but I didn’t know anyone and didn’t feel great so went home fairly early.

It was a good thing I did because I had to get up at 7:15 on Sunday. We had signed up to go with TUMI boating down the Isar. Going was Alex’s idea and I didn’t really know what to expect. Boating in fact involved rubber dinghys, two or three to a dinghy and lots of paddling. It was brilliant. Floating down the river it was hard to believe you were anywhere near a city. We started out in Wolfrathausen or something and went with the tide into the centre of Munich. The landscape was gorgeous. I didn’t take my camera because I thought it might get wet and I’m glad I didn’t because everything of mine got pretty soaked, except the stuff that was triple-wrapped. The lowpoint of the day came when it started to rain, like bucket down with rain. So we got out of the boats, dragged them onto the shore and waited for it to stop raining. After 30 minutes of that it stopped and became sunny and warm again. It only started raining again much later, once we had started the bbq.

In Munich everyone bbqs on the banks of the Isar. You go along there on any sunny day and there will invariably be a whole load of people bbqing. It’s very nice and we decided to follow suit, only to be thwarted by the rain. So we left…

…and went to the cinema. We went to see a very grown up and intellectual film called Ice Age 3. It’s about the plight of mammals faced with the resurgence of dinosours supposedly extinct :P It was brilliant AND in 3D (I’ve kept the glasses). It was extremely funny, even though we went to see the German version. I want to see the original now, I’m sure it is great. Lots of tongue-in-cheek jokes and the visuals were very impressive. Unfortunately we were in the front row, meaning my neck hurt but it wasn’t too bad.  You just come out with the most enormous smile on your face, great film for kids and adults alike (as they say).

And that was it for the weekend. I think that’s enough.
